About Us

What is a "Tool Library"?

A tool library is just like a book library — you can "check out"  tools, usually for no cost.  We charge a small maintenance fee for some items that require extensive maintenance, although our maintenance fee is a small fraction of the cost to rent the same item from a store.

If you don't want to spend the money to buy a tool that'll be used lightly, our tool library is perfect for you!

What is a "Repair Clinic"?

Have a piece of furniture, tool or small machine item in need of repair?  Bring it in and let our highly skilled volunteers help you repair it!  This is a free service for Tool Library members only.

Tool Sales

We also have a wide selection of TOOLS FOR SALE. These can be new or gently used hand and power tools that we just don't have space for on our shelves. Come and browse - you might find just what you need at a very reasonable price. Our tool sale area is open every Saturday from 12:30 until 3:30, but you can shop any time you visit the library.

Our Mission

The Tool Library of Lake County is an all-volunteer, community-based non-profit tool lending library. As part of the sharing economy which prioritizes access over ownership to save money and conserve resources, the Tool Library is a community resource that encourages civic engagement and volunteerism while building skills and relationships.

How We Benefit Our Community

The Tool Library of Lake County gives people the opportunity to use tools without having to buy or  store them. Sharing provides access to high-quality, well-maintained tools to all residents, whatever their socioeconomic status may be. Tool libraries make home repair accessible to everyone. Tool sharing also minimizes waste and negative environmental effects of manufacturing and shipping goods that may only be used once or twice a year.

How Is This Possible?

Tool Library of Lake County relies entirely on the support of volunteers and individuals willing to donate their time, talents, and energy to sustain its service to our community. 💛
